Personal presentation

Graduated in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1986), Master in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1989), PhD in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1992) / University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (United States), Postdoctoral and Habilitation at the State University of Campinas. She is currently Associate Professor in Biochemistry at the State University of Campinas. At the Laboratory of Antioxidant Defenses of Trypanosoma cruzi (LABDAT), she coordinates projects to study the antioxidant mechanisms and mitochondrial bioenergetics of T. cruzi isolates from patients with different clinical forms of Chagas disease and the investigation of trypanocidal compounds.

Research activities

The research activities undertaken at our laboratory aim to study the Biochemistry of trypanosomatids, especially Trypanosoma cruzi, with emphasis on their bioenergetics and antioxidant mechanisms. We also test potential compounds to develop a more specific and less toxic therapy for Chagas disease.

Teaching activities

Since being hired at UNICAMP, I have been teaching Biochemistry classes for Biology, Physical Education, Nursing, Medicine, and Pharmacy courses. At the moment, I am responsible for Biochemistry and the Biochemical Foundation of Physiological and Pathological Processes subjects taught for Pharmacy and Graduate students.

Extension activities

At the moment I am Extension Coordinator of the Institute of Biology.
