Personal presentation

Undergraduation in Pharmacist at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1986), Master in Science in Microbiology at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1989), Ph.d. in Microbiology at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1992) and University Of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1992). Has experience in Biochemistry, focusing on Metabolism and Bioenergetics, acting on the following subjects: Trypanosoma cruzi, oxidative stress and mitochondrial bioenergetics.

Research activities

The research activities undertaken at our laboratory aim to study the Biochemistry of trypanosomatids, especially Trypanosoma cruzi, with emphasis on their bioenergetics and antioxidant mechanisms. We also test potential compounds to develop a more specific and less toxic therapy for Chagas disease.

Teaching activities

Since being hired at UNICAMP, I have been teaching Biochemistry classes for Biology, Physical Education, Nursing, Medicine, and Pharmacy courses. At the moment, I am responsible for Biochemistry and the Biochemical Foundation of Physiological and Pathological Processes subjects taught for Pharmacy and Graduate students.

Extension activities

At the moment I am Extension Coordinator of the Institute of Biology.
