He has completed the undergraduate course of Biological Sciences in the Universidade de São Paulo (1972) and the PH. D. in Botany (Ecology) in the Universidade de São Paulo (1980). Teacher in the Department of Plant Biology since March/1974, he became Full Professor in 2008. He has developed researches on the ecology of natural plant populations and communities, especially in the Cerrado, Atlantic forest and Caatinga. He retired in December/2018, and has experience in Plant Ecology, acting on the following subjects: community ecology, population ecology, phytogeography.

In the undergraduate course, collaboration in disciplines of plant ecology, and bases of ethics for Biology, and lecturing of an elective discipline on pedology fundaments. In the graduate course, lecturing of disciplines on the methodology of science, fundaments of soil ecology, and plant ecology.
