Personal presentation

Prof. Dr. Wagner José Fávaro is a Professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), where he has built an outstanding academic career, earning his Masters, Ph.D., Postdoctoral, and, in 2022, the title of Associate Professor (Livre-Docente) in Urogenital System Anatomy. A specialist in Uropathology, Urogenital Carcinogenesis, Nanomedicine, and Drug Development, his scientific contributions are recognized both nationally and internationally. He is a member of prestigious international scientific societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the Society for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (SITC). In Brazil, he is a Full Member of the Brazilian Society of Nanomedicine. From 2017 to 2020, he served on the CAPES Four-Year Evaluation Committee for Medicine III, contributing to the advancement and evaluation of scientific research in Brazil. In the business field, he is a Co-Founder of NANOIMMUNOTHERAPY PHARMA LTDA, an innovative company dedicated to developing drugs for human and veterinary use, bridging academic research and technological innovation. At UNICAMP, he leads the research group "Nanomedicine Applied to Immuno-Oncology and Inflammatory Diseases", registered with the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq), and coordinates the Center for Immunotherapy and Inflammatory Diseases (CIDI), established based on discoveries related to the OncoTherad immunotherapy.Among his accomplishments, the development of OncoTherad (MRB-CFI-1) stands out as the first 100 Brazilian immunotherapy created in a public university. After 15 years of research in urogenital carcinogenesis and nanotechnology, OncoTherad has shown significant efficacy in reducing solid tumors in preclinical and clinical studies, marking a milestone in immunotherapy for cancer treatment. This scientific breakthrough has resulted in multiple patents, both in Brazil and internationally, as well as registered trademarks.Prof. Dr. Fávaro has also made significant contributions to the dissemination of academic knowledge. He created the "Anatomia Unicamp" YouTube channel, a widely used educational resource for students and healthcare professionals. He has published numerous scientific articles in high-impact journals and book chapters in cutting-edge fields such as nanomedicine and oncology. His scientific and technological innovations have earned him prestigious awards, including the Diploma of Health Merit (2023), the SBOC Science Award (2021), the UNICAMP Inventors Award (2020), the Newton Prado Medal (2018), the Prof. Nelson Rodrigues Netto Jr. Urology Award (2018), the INOVA UNICAMP Award (2018), and the IV Octavio Frias de Oliveira Award (2013).Furthermore, his international contributions include coordinating high-impact projects, such as the International Research and Development Cooperation Project with Slovenia, funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Communications (MCTIC) in 2014, and serving as the official representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology at the European consortium NANoREG, focused on regulatory protocols for nanomaterials. These activities underscore his position as a scientist with global impact.Recognized for his scientific relevance, he ranks among the Top 10,000 most influential researchers in Brazil and Latin America according to the Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index 2024-2025, solidifying his leadership in translational research, innovation, and the training of future generations of researchers.

Research activities

His present research interests are uropathology, carcinogenesis, urogenital tumors, immunotherapy, regenerative medicine and nanobiotechnology in oncology. Responsible for the development of the OncoTherad immunomodulator, which has therapeutic application in several tumors.

Teaching activities
