Personal presentation

graduation at Educação Física from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2003), master's at Biochemistry from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2006) and doctorate at Biochemistry from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2010). Has experience in Biochemistry, focusing on Metabolism and Bioenergetics, acting on the following subjects: músculo esquelético, exercício, basquetebol, mitocôndria and proteoma.

Research activities

Our primary research interest is the investigation of cellular mechanisms regulating skeletal muscle contractile activity and energy metabolism during stimulation and fatigue. In our lab we are employing an intact single skeletal muscle fiber model that allows us to measure force generation and perform fluorescence microscopy to analyze intracellular parameters in real time during contractions at a single cell level. Ultimately our long-term goal is to bring new information that might be used to improve muscle function and exercise capacity in different patho-physiological states.

Teaching activities

Our group is involved in teaching biochemistry for Physical Education students (BB110 - Biochemestry). The focus of this course is the study of energy metabolism in skeletal muscle and exercise. I also teach basic biochemistry to first year Medical students (BS103 and BS104). The main topics of these courses are principles of biochemistry and bioenergetics, and the integration of metabolism between different organs and systems in health and disease. In these courses we have been employing and developing different pedagogical approaches and materials, such as interactive websites and software; study guides with clinical cases, and experimental practical activities to promote the ability of students to apply the principles of biochemistry in real-world settings.
